GEORGE STREET FESTIVAL 2021
After a year of hiatus, the ever popular George Street Festival is finally back from August 26th - September 1st, just a few weeks later than its usual summer schedule. Thanks to the George Street Association, I was given permission with full access to capture some beautiful moments during the event. The event was well attended considering there was no true large outdoor concerts in town since the Pandemic. Most nights, there were 3 bands, including one headliner. I believe there were 2 sold out nights with headliners like Shanneyganock and Blue Rodeo.
The organizer has certainly encouraged concert goers to keep mask on and maintain social distancing. On the final days of the concert, our government Public Health Guideline has also been modified requiring mandate mask wearing at the event except during active drinking or eating.
There were more than a dozen bands played on the stage over the 5 nights. Some of these bands include: Shanneyganock, Siochana, Tim Baker, Navigators, Justin Fancy, Robyn Ottilini, Fairgale, Elliot BROOD, Haviah Mighty, Arkells and a few more; from pop to alternate country to rap to NL tunes, catering to a variety of music fans.
It was great to see so many bands returning to stage with live music on George Street. Mask wearing is now part of the new normal for similar events in the future and I look forward to the next big concert events at the Iceberg Alley Performance Tent Concert series in a week’s time down at Quidi Vidi grounds.
